“Hands move faster than the brain. Now that we have created the rainbow, we must be able to unweave it. Unweave a rainbow, rehearse its path anew, before getting the final freeze frame on the the edge of a cliff… This is an artist’s adventure and flaunt.”

MadeIn Gallery is pleased to present the group exhibition “Unweave a Rainbow” on July 12, 2024, featuring latest paintings by Qian Qian, Wang Xin, Yao Mou In, and Mei Ruowen.

Qian Qian’s picture combines mirage with tangible objects, telling of the artist’s exploration in between science and human belief systems. With fluorescent green brushstrokes on black paper, Wang Xin’s conflicting and powerful canvases unfold around motifs of death, rebirth, and desire. Yao Mou In’s paintings display a straightforward humor, with flat, cartoon-like symbols betraying, explicitly or otherwise, moments of absurdity in social and individual life. While reflecting on patriarchal gender relations, Mei Ruowen transforms “shōjo manga” into a unique pictorial language that dissolves romantic fantasies and provokes a penetrating sense of discomfort in the viewer.

The exhibition shows how, with a diverse choice of media and artistic language, a younger generation of artists refine, capture, and reconstruct instantaneous perceptions to strike an empathetic and reflective chord with the viewer.
