Fu Site’s recent works use “figures” as the subject, attempting to directly address one of the most central and eternal themes in the history of painting. Through repeated studies, he observed: “An image seems not to maintain its presented appearance; it is a portrait of a certain moment in the process, and as a dynamic system, it is constantly changing.” Using this as a starting point, he developed a complete expression of “figures”: they are both static and dynamic; both instantaneous and eternal; both discrete and aggregated; both definite and indeterminate.
In his Figures series, Fu Site attempts to propose a possibility of “non-portraiture,” using images to embody a mechanism of internal movement, focusing on yet simultaneously transcending the representation of “figures,” presenting an intuitive yet traceable creation.
