In his recent sculptural practice, Qiu Ja selects reclaimed wood from discarded furniture, allowing these useless old materials to generate new value and meaning in a new body (the artwork). In his view, these wooden boards are tangible and real, directly part of the living world and the mortal realm. At the same time, as recreated and regenerated objects, they seem to possess a new soul and breath. Thus, through creative sculptural language, the works narrate the connection between the past and the present, irresistibly and unconsciously pulling us into this time vortex, helping us reconcile the new with the old.
