This new piece continues Zhang Peili’s recent exploration of the medium of semiconductor radios and sound devices.  Zhang utilizes an old semiconductor radio to repetitively play the station identification sounds of 60 national radio stations, evoking the era when international broadcasts relied on shortwave radio. This obsolete technology has become a relic in the memories of a generation, but the evolution of technology has not changed the inequality in how people from different regions use technology and access information. Through this, the artist reminds us to pay attention to the limitations and multifaceted nature of technology in the process of globalization.
